Architecture
Built in 1968, Barrington Hall Student Union serves the SUNY Potsdam campus with dining, lounge, and assembly spaces. The building required a complete re-roofing and grand renovation of entrance and atrium spaces. Popli Design Group (PDG) worked with the client to re-imagine the dark existing spaces as a cutting-edge and acoustically high performance student forum. Roofing work was also extensive, as the campus opted to replace existing HVAC equipment with new equipment in a new penthouse.
Design work includes:
-
Design of a renovated central atrium including two large skylights, balconies, and modern acoustical treatments
-
Design of grand entrance ceilings at two main building entrances
-
Replacement of ceilings throughout public spaces and corridors to tie new aesthetics throughout the building
-
Design of artwork display systems throughout public corridor and lounge spaces
-
Acoustical modeling of existing and proposed lecture hall spaces
-
Full replacement of 38,200 square foot EPDM roofing system, including replacement of architectural roof coping
-
Provision of new insulation to bring the building up to current energy codes
-
Design of new interior elevator to serve renovated lounge space
-
Reconfiguration of mechanical services as made convenient by required roof work
