28th Statewide Conference on Local Bridges

Ben Beardsley, PE, had the pleasure of presenting our County Road 20 Bridge Replacement project with Allegany County’s Superintendent of Public Works, Tom Windus, PE, at the 28th Statewide Conference on Local Bridges in Syracuse last week.

The locally administered, federally funded, BRIDGE-NY project consisted of the replacement of a twin CMP structure that was 142 ft long with a three-sided precast arch with concrete strip footings founded on piles due to soft underlying soils. The presentation highlighted the advantages to providing specific substitution options for three-sided precast concrete structures on the design plans, including foundation design options for three-sided structures (invert slab vs. strip footing with piles); three-sided superstructure selection (arch, flat-top, slant-leg, or all of the above); headwall design and details (CIP vs. Precast); and wingwall design and details (CIP vs. Precast).
